Personal HR Support

We put the people back into HR

It never ceases to amaze us how many other HR providers attempt to completely take the people out of their service, replacing them with an impersonal database, collection of document templates, or anonymous call-handler. After all, HR is supposed to be a people business, isn’t it?

Whilst this may well be an ‘efficient’ way of providing HR and employment law ‘support’, what it really boils down to is that they simply don’t have enough HR consultants available to provide a personal service to more than one client at a time. In contrast, we currently employ a whole team of HR consultants ready to help you in person.

Information is not enough

I mean, would you be okay just relying on a diagnostic manual for your medical care? Or only consulting a pool of random doctors via the phone? Or learning how to do surgery on yourself from the internet? Because in effect we’re the equivalent of health care professionals for your ‘sick’ workforce.

Whilst an impersonal HR support service might be sufficient if you only required factual information, our experience has shown us that such information is probably only the first thing that you’ll need. What about interpretation of what it actually means? Or advice on what action is required? Or how to make it fit your business objectives? Or a discussion of the risks and likely consequences? Or the pro and cons of possible alternatives? Or hands-on help with practical implementation? Or just a sounding board to explore your thoughts and concerns?

We provide personal support

Indeed, often the most important thing we provide is simply personal support at a challenging time. We know employment law can be confusing and intimidating. And we know that some employee issues can be be stressful, unpleasant, and confrontational. We run a business and manage staff too, so we completely understand what you’re going through.

We regularly find that business owners and managers know exactly what they need to do, but struggle to deal with a difficult situation on a face-to-face basis. So, we assign a named HR expert to be your single point of contact, who will really get to know you and your business. They’ll not only be able to personally provide you with a comprehensive package of personal advice and support, but will also act as a reassuring friendly face to help you do the hard thing that you know is the right thing to do. Or if you’d prefer, we can even take the problem off your hands entirely, and handle the whole process on your behalf. It’s completely up to you.

We’re good listeners

We listen to what you actually want to achieve with your business, and then give you the necessary practical HR support to help make that happen. We understand that you’re in charge of running your company, so won’t just blindly insist that you must follow a particular course of action. Instead, we’ll give you a range of options based on your attitude to risk, and guide you through the pros and cons of these, so that you can decide which one you’d prefer to take.

We’re adaptable

We’ve got a great deal of experience in dealing with different types of people. We’re equally comfortable talking to board-level executives, family-business members, shop-floor workers, business owners, managers, union representatives, other HR professionals, lawyers, amongst many others.

We can be understanding, patient, and empathic when required, but can also be tough and decisive when necessary too. We’re good at quickly calming a situation, establishing rapport, and getting to the root of the issue. We’re qualified mediators, so know how to manage conflict, find common ground, and compromise to obtain win-win results for your business.

And we’re not afraid to deal with really difficult and unpleasant situations on a face-to-face basis.

We’re all about long-term relationships

We pride ourselves on the high levels of personal service we provide, and the long-term partnerships that we build. In fact, we win most of our new work though the word-of-mouth recommendations of existing clients and acquaintances. We’re not motivated by the quick win of a one-off sale, but are looking to establish an ongoing working relationship, where we can grow together and really get to know each other.

We’re active and well-respected members of the Derby business community, and regularly participate in networking events. So, feel free to ask around, check out what people say about us online, or come and meet us in person and decide for yourself.
