Gill Phillips

An experienced HR practitioner with almost 20 years’ professional experience, Gill Phillips joined the growing Loates team in February 2017 after running her own consultancy business. With a hugely varied commercial and public sector HR background alongside experience of providing HR consultancy to SME clients, Gill is ideally placed to continue the Loates brand of high quality but no-nonsense HR advice and support.

Gill started her HR career with the Guilbert Niceday stationery group (now Office Depot) then working at other bluechip UK and global businesses, including Otis Elevators, The Co-operative Group and RS Components. In 2004 Gill moved to Derbyshire to settle with her family near the Peak District and since then has enjoyed senior regional HR and management roles including Derbyshire County Council, the Derby Hospitals NHS Trust and the Methodist Church before setting up her own consultancy in 2011.

Gill is delighted to have joined LoatesHR and to be part of their continued success and growth plans. Additional to her generalist HR background, Gill brings with her a wealth of business partnering experience along with expertise in the areas of employee relations, employment law and workforce development. Prior to joining LoatesHR, Gill developed a deep understanding of the HR support needs of SME organisations through her HR consultancy work, providing both operational support and strategic guidance to management teams covering recruitment, change management, employee engagement projects, performance and absence management, TUPE transfers, re-structuring, redundancies and employee documentation inc. staff contracts, handbooks, policies & procedures.

Gill completed her professional exams at the University of Salford in 1998, achieved Chartered Membership of the Institute of Personnel and Development in 2000, and has undertaken regular professional CPD since. In 2015 Gill completed the MA module in Employment Law at the University of Derby, achieving a first class grade.

Out of work Gill has used her HR experience to serve as a student mentor for the CIPD and the University of Derby, completed 3 years as a governor at her local primary school and served on management committees within the local Methodist Circuit, parents’ charities and other voluntary bodies in the region. Any other spare time Gill has left is taken up running around after her two teenage boys and trying to keep up with requests for lifts everywhere or demands for the latest sci-fi films and videos.
