Employment Law Update: Payslip Changes

What Is Happening?

From the 6th April 2019 employers must provide itemised payslips to their workforce. This now extends to workers. Payslips must also either:

• Show the combined number of hours worked for which payment is being made; or
• Itemise the figures for different types of work worked and/or different rates of pay.

Why Does It Matter?

This is a significant change for employers by  providing an opportunity to increase transparency as it is now inclusive to those who are not classified as ’employees’ such as contractors, freelancers and other ‘non-employee’ workers.

To find out about who is identified as a worker, this is explained on gov.uk.

What Do I Need To Do?

For employers to comply with the new legislation the payroll systems in place should be adjusted to facilitate the change and provide payslips to all workers.
