Employment Law Update: Increased Pregnancy Rights in Redundancy Situations

What Is Happening?

A consultation is currently being considered to add to the existing legal protection against unfair redundancy procedures for pregnant women and new mothers on maternity leave. It is proposed to extend redundancy protection for up to six months after a new mother returns to work, as well as considering giving the same rights to those parents returning from adoption leave or shared parental leave.

Why Does It Matter?

As an employer it is important to be aware of changes surrounding redundancy protection in case the topic of redundancy comes up within your organisation.

What Do I Need To Do?

If the consultation is approved and put in to place it is important that employers ensure all relevant employees such as managers and HR are made aware of the changes.
